Cazzie Russell played college basketball at the University of Michigan, where he became one of the most dominant players in NCAA history. He led the Michigan Wolverines to the NCAA Tournament finals in 1965 and was named to the All-American team.

He was known for his scoring and leadership, averaging 26.1 points per game in his senior year. He was regarded as one of the best players in the country during his time at Michigan.

Russell was selected as a 2-time NBA All-Star during his career (1972, 1973). He helped the Knicks secure an NBA championship in 1970 as a vital contributor to the team, although he wasn’t the primary star like Willis Reed and Walt Frazier.

Russell’s role in the 1973 Knicks Championship season was also significant before injuries started to slow him down.

After retiring from playing, Russell went on to have a role in coaching and mentoring young players. He was also known for his involvement in basketball, working with younger athletes and encouraging the next generation of players.

Russell is remembered as a key figure in the NBA’s early years and remains a part of basketball history for his contributions to the New York Knicks and the league.
