Eddie Kendricks (1939–1992) was one of soul music’s most influential falsetto voices, best known as a founding member and lead singer of The Temptations.
Kendricks was a key lead singer in the group’s classic run, contributing defining vocals across early Motown hits and later psychedelic soul.
After leaving The Temptations, Kendricks scored major solo success with funk/disco-leaning records.
Kendricks helped define the falsetto-led soul sound that influenced generations of R&B singers. His Temptations leads and solo disco-era hits remain core parts of American popular music.
Eddie Kendricks passed away on October 5, 1992, from lung cancer at age 52. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Temptations in 1989.
