Gary Payton (born July 23, 1968) is a retired NBA legend, widely regarded as one of the greatest point guards in basketball history. Nicknamed "The Glove" for his elite defensive skills.
Played 13 seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics (1990–2003). Led them to the 1996 NBA Finals (lost to Chicago Bulls). Franchise leader in assists and steals.
His son, Gary Payton II (GP2), plays for the Golden State Warriors. Known for defense; part of the 2022 NBA championship team.
