QuickGUI on Ubuntu 24.04 – Installation Guide

  1. Visit the QuickGUI releases page
  2. Download the latest quickgui-*-linux.deb file (e.g. quickgui-1.2.10+1-linux.deb or newer)
  3. Install it via terminal:
    cd ~/Downloads
    sudo apt install ./quickgui-*-linux.deb

This method bundles Quickemu + dependencies automatically.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:flexiondotorg/quickemu -y
sudo apt update
sudo apt install quickemu quickgui

Advantages:

  • Frequent updates & bug fixes
  • Officially maintained for Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble)

Avoid older third-party PPAs (e.g. yannick-mauray/quickgui) — they don’t support 24.04.

  • Launch QuickGUI from menu or terminal: quickgui
  • Set a VM storage directory (recommended: ~/VMs or ~/QuickGUI-VMs — avoid ~/)
  • Click Create new machine → choose OS → Download ISO → QuickGUI builds optimized VM
  • Press Play to start
Tip: After first boot, VMs usually start from the qcow2 disk (not ISO again).

Install these if you see SPICE/VNC/QEMU errors:
sudo apt install qemu-system-x86 qemu-utils ovmf spice-vdagent swtpm
