Natalie Cole (1950–2015) was an American singer whose career blended R&B, pop, soul, and jazz. She was the daughter of Nat King Cole and became a major star in her own right.
Born in Los Angeles in 1950, Natalie Cole grew up surrounded by music. After studying at the
University of Massachusetts Amherst, she launched a professional singing career in the early
1970s.
She broke through with the album Inseparable (1975), which included the hit
“This Will Be” and established her as a leading R&B vocalist of the decade.
In the 1990s, Cole reached a new audience with jazz-leaning recordings and standards. Her
album Unforgettable... with Love (1991) became a landmark commercial and critical
success.
Across decades, Natalie Cole moved comfortably between contemporary R&B and classic
pop-jazz, earning multiple Grammy Awards and a reputation for vocal versatility.
