Paul Robeson (1898–1976) was an American singer, actor, athlete, lawyer, and civil rights activist. He was one of the most influential Black intellectuals of the 20th century.
Robeson starred in film and theater, most famously as Othello, and became world-renowned for his bass-baritone voice.
He performed spirituals, folk songs, and protest anthems in over 20 languages.
Blacklisted during the Cold War, Robeson lost everything for his beliefs, yet remains a symbol of fearless integrity.
