Selma to Montgomery March (1965)
The Selma to Montgomery Marches were a series of peaceful protests in 1965 demanding voting rights for African Americans in Alabama.
On March 7, 1965, marchers were violently attacked on the Edmund Pettus Bridge by state troopers.
These marches led directly to the Voting Rights Act of 1965, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson.
